This Is Berlin is a queer portrait project I developed during my residency in Berlin. I arrived without an established queer network and began photographing strangers as a way of learning the city through people rather than place. Moving through queer spaces both online and in person, I focused on meeting and photographing FLINTA* and BIPOC people, whose perspectives remain underrepresented within queer visual culture.
I’m interested in the ways we navigate visibility, belonging, and connection. Each portrait began with conversation—about their lives, their experiences, and queer Berlin—and grew from that shared time and trust. The project now includes 45+ portraits alongside documentary photographs and video, forming an evolving collection of encounters, relationships, and glimpses into queer life in Berlin. The portraits are presented in chronological order.
